GreenFutures Information
Introduction
GreenFutures is GreenPower's programme for community ownership of at
least one wind turbine on our projects. Below is some general information
about GreenFutures.

GreenFutures Q & A's
Why Register now?
- You will be demonstrating interest and support for community ownership (community ownership will only be possible if there is sufficient interest)
- You will be the first to be informed about future opportunities
- You will be demonstrating your commitment to tackling climate change
If you would like to make a real difference to securing more clean and green power
production in the UK, we want to hear from you.
It is only through communities and business working together, that we can meet our
obligations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Have the details of how this will work been finalised?
We propose a co-operative structure to enable community ownership. However, the final structure at each project will be established in full consultation with the local community. The model below gives an indication of how 'GreenFutures' will work:

Does someone have to live close to our wind farm to become involved?
We will give a preference to local people, but we will open up to a wider base as well. We want this opportunity to be as inclusive as is possible.
When will the opportunity actually happen?
The formal opportunity to become involved will take place if and when we have received all the consents we need, but before the project is completed.
When will the community own the turbine?
They will take ownership once the wind farm is up and running. This way they do not have to take any construction risk and only ever own a real physical asset.
Who will operate the turbine?
The turbine will be operated in the same way as all the other turbines on the wind farm, by the appointed operations and maintenance (O&M) staff.
What if their turbine has mechanical problems?
The output of the wind farm will be shared equally according to installed capacity. That way both parties share the cost of any turbine maintenance issues. If the community turbine has maintenance problems, the O&M team is as motivated to fix this as one belonging to GreenPower, as it has the same economic effect.
What if the community owned turbine is in a poor performing location?
Whilst the community will own an actual turbine, the output of the wind farm will be averaged out – if there are ten turbines, then they will receive one tenth of the output, regardless of what the actual performance of the community turbine is at any given location. This will be managed through the contracts that will be in place.
Will the community be owning part of GreenPower
The community will own a wind turbine and will share in the performance of the whole project. They will not own a proportion of GreenPower.
What will be the minimum and maximum amount you can invest?
If a co-operative is formed the minimum investment will likely be around £200. The minimum is set to ensure that the cost of administering an individuals account will not be greater than the investment itself. Under cooperative rules, the maximum any individual can invest is £20,000.
